Priya Sharma fashion model interview

Priya Sharma is a runway and editorial model based out of Paris, France. Originally from Jaipur, Priya had done a little bit of modelling in India before moving to France to pursue her studies. It was there when she started taking modelling seriously and started modelling professionally.

Though still relatively new Priya Sharma is rapidly making a place for herself in the Paris
fashion scene.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how did you get into modelling?
Priya: I came to Paris for my Master in Finance, then I started searching ongoing modelling opportunities. This world has welcomed me with good opportunities because people are liking me so much as a model. So, it really happened quite naturally.

What do you love the most about modelling?
Priya: I like the creativity and freedom it gives you. In fashion, the constant and inextinguishable search for perfection and beauty fascinates me.  It's a lot of hard work, but the people you work with are always talented and passionate, they basically love what they do and this gives me a lot of energy.

You are currently based in Paris. What has the experience been like working there?
Priya: Since I haven't really been a professional model in India, I can't really compare and highlight the specificities of working there. But what is immediately striking though, is that you live in a world capital of fashion and you can feel that in many ways. Paris holds fashion weeks 4 or 5 times a year, which means you have one fashion week every two or three months and the fashion weeks are amazing, with dozens of shows and miscellaneous events taking place daily all over the city. But beyond that, I would say that fashion has in France a very special status that you probably don't find anywhere else in the world, think of those names like Chanel, Yves St Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Balmain, etc, all names that are making French fashion universally known. So yes, there's definitely a different feel in modeling in such a country.

Any advice for models aspiring to model internationally?
Priya: The way you are looked at as a model differs a lot depending on where you are and what are the local specificities in terms of population. If you're Indian, you will much more be a rare thing in Paris or Milan than you would ever be in London for instance. So, if I have any advice to give with regard to modeling internationally, it would be to explore what the local market is and how interesting you may be as a model with regard to what that market is looking for.

How would you describe your personal style?
Priya: I'm not sure I'm in the right position to describe myself with regard to modeling since a model really only exists in other people's eyes. But if I go by what people says, I would be a rare mix of sexiness and elegance, so I guess I can trust them on that!

Can you walk us through your workout regime?
Priya: Well as I mentioned I am a finance student too; Mostly I have shoots so it's not really easy to stay on a very healthy diet but I always try to make some time in between my Personal and Professional life for my sports (Gym).

What is your goal as a model?
Priya: Modeling for the most prestigious high couture brands around the world is probably the dream of any fashion model in the world from New Delhi to Singapore, Paris, Milan, London or NY. So, let me confess I'm sharing that dream too.
